Pinball Wizard is a new piece of public art in Scottsdale

Metro Phoenix is well know for the countless beautiful works of public art that dot the desert landscape.

Scottsdale Public Art just debuted its newest commission and we couldn’t be happier!

The new piece is called Pinball Wizard and it’s located at the splash pad near Marshall Way Bridge at the Scottsdale Waterfront in Old Town Scottsdale.

The piece is by Denver artist Annette Coleman who is famous for public sculptures and installation.

Coleman enjoys creating bright, colorful sculptures based on her connection to nature and love of the outdoors. She believes serpentine shapes help reflect nature’s shapes and become whimsical abstractions of various elements—water, wind, flora, and fauna. Pinball Wizard references popular games to evoke a fun and playful nature for the splash pad.

Pinball Wizard is a vibrant, fun installation that is composed of about 30 domes and spheres of various sizes covered in colorful mosaic glass. They’re set on a new concrete wall adorned with waves of glass mosaic pieces.

The artist’s glass is cut into random shapes and in a variety of colors that dance with light in any weather. The mosaic stained glass pieces are embedded in colored concrete that is formulated to last decades. Glass itself is among the most durable of mediums.
