The four-acre Xeriscape Demonstration Garden<\/strong><\/a><\/span> is located next to the main branch of the Glendale Public Library<\/strong><\/a>. It is a home to 400 species<\/span> of plants which are identified by common and botanical names. Many plants in the garden are low-water and therefore excellent for hot and dry Arizona weather. This award-winning garden is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk.<\/span> In the Garden, you can check out these specific gardens: the Habitat Garden<\/span><\/strong>, the Cactus Garden<\/span><\/strong>, the Glendale Rain Garden<\/span><\/strong> and the Glendale Tree Trail<\/span><\/strong>. Don’t forget to pick up free landscaping brochures inside the library.<\/p>\n

The Glendale Habitat Garden<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Located near the south entrance<\/span> of the Glendale Main Library, in this section you can find native Sonoran Desert plants<\/span> and plenty of shade which provides welcoming habitat for plants, wildlife and people.<\/p>\n

The Cactus Garden<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Located north of the Main Library’s parking lot<\/span>, it contains over 250 different species of cacti and succulents.<\/span> On the east end you can find mostly native Sonoran Desert plants<\/span> and on the west side desert adapted plants from other continents like Africa and South America<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Rain Garden<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Located at the front entrance of the Glendale Main Library<\/span>. Here you can see how the Rain Garden spreads and sinks rainwater from the library roof where it is used directly by native plants.<\/p>\n

Desert Food Forest<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Located at the Glendale Xeriscape Demonstration Garden<\/span> showcases desert-edible trees<\/span>, shrubs<\/span>, perennials<\/span> and succulents<\/span>. This Food Forest provides a local food source, improves air and storm water quality and serves as a habitat for local wildlife.<\/p>\n

Tree Trail<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Located at the Glendale Xeriscape Demonstration Garden<\/span>, the Tree Trail provides examples of small and medium-size desert-adapted trees<\/span> with signage that demonstrates proper tree care practices.<\/p>\n
